Windows Hotkeys

1. Shift + F10 right-clicks.
2. Win + L (XP Only): Locks keyboard. Similar to Lock Workstation.
3. Win + F or F3: Open Find dialog. (All Files) F3 may not work in some applications which use F3for their own find dialogs.
4. Win + Control + F: Open Find dialog. (Computers)
5. Win + U: Open Utility Manager.
6. Win + F1: Open Windows help.
7. Win + Pause: Open System Properties dialog.
8. Win + Tab: Cycle through taskbar buttons. Enter clicks, AppsKey or Shift + F10 right-clicks.
9. Win + Shift + Tab: Cycle through taskbar buttons in reverse.
10. Alt + Tab: Display CoolSwitch. More commonly known as the AltTab dialog.
11. Alt + Shift + Tab: Display CoolSwitch; go in reverse.
12. Alt + Escape: Send active window to the bottom of the z-order.
13. Alt + Shift + Escape: Activate the window at the bottom of the z-order.
14. Alt + F4: Close active window; or, if all windows are closed, open shutdown dialog.
15. Shift while a CD is loading: Bypass AutoPlay.
16. Shift while login: Bypass startup folder. Only those applications will be ignored which are in the
17. startup folder, not those started from the registry (Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\)
18. Ctrl + Alt + Delete or Ctrl + Alt + NumpadDel (Both NumLock states): Invoke the Task Manager or NT Security dialog.
19. Ctrl + Shift + Escape (2000/XP ) or (Ctrl + Alt + NumpadDot) : Invoke the task manager. On earlier OSes, acts like Ctrl + Escape.
20. Printscreen: Copy screenshot of current screen to clipboard.
21. Alt + Printscreen: Copy screenshot of current active window to clipboard.
22. Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow: Invert screen. Untested on OSes other than XP.
23. Ctrl + Alt + Up Arrow: Undo inversion.
24. Win + B : Move focus to systray icons.

Generic

1. Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Insert: Copy.
2. Ctrl + X or Shift + Delete: Cut.
3. Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert: Paste/Move.
4. Ctrl + N: New... File, Tab, Entry, etc.
5. Ctrl + S: Save.

Generic Navigation

1. Tab: Forward one item.
2. Shift + Tab: Backward one item.
3. Ctrl + Tab: Cycle through tabs/child windows.
4. Ctrl + Shift + Tab: Cycle backwards through tabs/child windows.
5. Enter: If a button's selected, click it, otherwise, click default button.
6. Space: Toggle items such as radio buttons or checkboxes.
7. Alt + (Letter): Activate item corresponding to (Letter). (Letter) is the underlined letter on the item's name.
8. Ctrl + Left: Move cursor to the beginning of previous word.
9. Ctrl + Right: Move cursor to the beginning of next word.
10. Ctrl + Up: Move cursor to beginning of previous paragraph. This and all subsequent Up/Down
11. hotkeys in this section have only been known to work in RichEdit controls.
12. Ctrl + Down: Move cursor to beginning of next paragraph.
13. Shift + Left: Highlight one character to the left.
14. Shift + Right: Highlight one character to the right.
15. Shift + Up: Highlight from current cursor position, to one line up.
16. Shift + Down: Highlight from current cursor position, to one line down.
17. Ctrl + Shift + Left: Highlight to beginning of previous word.
18. Ctrl + Shift + Right: Highlight to beginning of next word.
19. Ctrl + Shift + Up: Highlight to beginning of previous paragraph.

21. Home: Move cursor to top of a scrollable control.
22. End: Move cursor to bottom of a scrollable control.

Generic File Browser

1. Arrow Keys: Navigate.
2. Shift + Arrow Keys: Select multiple items.
3. Ctrl + Arrow Keys: Change focus without changing selection. "Focus" is the object that will run
4. on Enter. Space toggles selection of the focused item.
5. (Letter): Select first found item that begins with (Letter).
6. BackSpace: Go up one level to the parent directory.
7. Alt + Left: Go back one folder.
8. Alt + Right: Go forward one folder.
9. Enter: Activate (Double-click) selected item(s).
10. Alt + Enter: View properties for selected item.
11. F2: Rename selected item(s).
12. Ctrl + NumpadPlus: In a Details view, resizes all columns to fit the longest item in each one.
13. Delete: Delete selected item(s).
14. Shift + Delete: Delete selected item(s); bypass Recycle Bin.
15. Ctrl while dragging item(s): Copy.
16. Ctrl + Shift while dragging item(s): Create shortcut(s).
17. In tree pane, if any:
18. Left: Collapse the current selection if expanded, or select the parent folder.
19. Right: Expand the current selection if collapsed, or select the first subfolder.
20. NumpadAsterisk: Expand currently selected directory and all subdirectories. No undo.
21. NumpadPlus: Expand currently selected directory.
22. NumpadMinus: Collapse currently selected directory.

Accessibility

1. Right Shift for eight seconds: Toggle FilterKeys on and off. FilterKeys must be enabled.
2. Left Alt + Left Shift + PrintScreen: Toggle High Contrast on and off. High Contrast must be enabled.
3. Left Alt + Left Shift + NumLock: Toggle MouseKeys on and off. MouseKeys must be enabled.
4. NumLock for five seconds: Toggle ToggleKeys on and off. ToggleKeys must be enabled.

2. C: Compose new message.

6. J: Switch focus to the next oldest email.

16. CONTROL OVER A TO ZOne of the keys whose importance may have gone unnoticed by most of us is the Control key (Ctrl). The Control key in combination with the 26 alphabet keys can make a lot of our work easier than we think. The following pair of keys can come in handy when we want tasks faster than while using the mouse.
